United States: Democratic nominee Kamala Harris got President Donald Trump on the back foot on Tuesday (local time). The former prosecutor Harris focused on Trump’s inability to hold the presidency, his views on abortion, and his scandals.
When Trump, 78, spoke back with a series of lies, he appeared highly stressed.
More about the news
Harris criticized Trump’s performance and made a joke about his rally figures, then Trump made unsubstantiated other lies about immigrants consuming pet animals, which caused Harris only laughter and dismissal of his remarks.
Expressing an absence of clear policy distinctions, the debate paved the way for Harris to engage Trump through moments that some of her advisers had plotted.

The debate was the only chance for both candidates to campaign for the election before the people of the state. A series of polls indicate that Trump continues to be ahead on the economy front even as Harris emerged as a formidable campaigner, News18 reported.
There were also concerns about his past statements on election fraud and racism issues. In preparation for the November election, Harris’ campaign seeks a second debate while Trump dismissed the move, saying he performed well in the first round.
What does the local poll suggest?
According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that closed on Thursday, democratic US Vice President Kamala Harris has a four-point lead over Republican Donald Trump at 47 percent to 42 percent in the race to secure the November 5 presidential election.
After the debate, Harris appeared to have more advantage over Trump, as voters believed that she won.
The two-day poll put Harris ahead by five percentage points among registered voters, a margin similar to her four-point lead on Trump in an Aug. 21-28 Reuters/Ipsos poll.
Some 52 percent of voters familiar with the debate said Harris “gave the impression of having higher moral integrity,” compared to 29% who said the same of Trump.
